Our faculty actively participates in international research networks and, for the most part, is involved in bilateral or multilateral agreements supported by national or international funding agencies. Furthermore, PROURB faculty members have been establishing new research contacts, expanding the program’s international reach to more countries and continents. The future challenge lies in broadening our international presence to new regions where innovation and solidarity are significant. Equally important has been strengthening existing research networks and including new faculty members and young researchers in traditional research centers with which PROURB has maintained academic exchanges for many years.
In 2018, UFRJ joined CAPES’ PrInt Program to foster internationalization, and PROURB is part of this initiative. The thematic axis of PrInt UFRJ to which PROURB is linked is Sustainability, Growth, and Combating Inequalities—issues addressed in various PROURB research groups.
PROURB has established and consolidated international dialogue and connections with many major education and research centers in Europe (France, the UK, Spain, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, Germany, Greece, the Netherlands, Portugal), Africa (Tanzania), Oceania (Australia), and the Americas (Peru, Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, Bolivia, Uruguay, Guatemala, Panama, Venezuela, Paraguay, the USA, and Canada).
Our goal is to expand and consolidate these exchanges, focusing on areas and sectors of excellence or significant expertise to develop projects and programs that help mitigate the country’s major social deficits and urban and environmental issues. Additionally, we aim to expand our international presence toward other continents and strategic regions, particularly Africa, Asia, and Oceania, in terms of both institutional exchanges and attracting new students and recent PhD graduates.
