The PROURB Postdoctoral Program began in 2005 as a result of institutional policy and the demand from national and international PhDs from other higher education institutions to undertake postdoctoral research and internships. This program expands PROURB’s potential for forming research networks, leading to significant institutional developments. One example is the creation of the Graduate Program in Architecture and Urbanism at UFES, whose first coordinator completed a postdoctoral internship at PROURB.
The institutionalization of the postdoctoral program is included in the UFRJ postgraduate regulations. As an internal requirement of PROURB, a research group coordinator from the program must submit the postdoctoral proposal to the Academic Committee. This proposal must include a research project, activity plan, and the applicant’s CV. The proposal is reviewed by a competent committee, whose decision is then submitted to the program’s Academic Committee for approval.
In 2006, the program welcomed its first postdoctoral fellows under the new format, who received scholarships from CNPq and CAPES. Since then, there has been a consistent flow of postdoctoral researchers at PROURB.
