The Professional Master in Landscape Architecture aims at a high level graduation of eligible professionals able to design, coordinate and implement projects concerning intervention in the landscape and its different scales, considering human values and natural systems. It seeks to promote theoretical and methodological innovations and their reflexes upon the projectual practice in Landscape, with emphasis on the expansion of skills of problem solving, coming from professional practice. Therefore the Professional Master in Landscape Architecture targets the deepening of professional graduation, transfering theoretical and analytical reflections to the expanded field of practice and development of contemporary landscape. Professional Master in Landscape Architecture is born in response to the need of a professional graduation in line with the projectual approach on Landscape Practice, straightly applied to public, private and third sectors, aimed at collective actions. We intend to stimulate the collective performance among different characters (professionals, public and private institutions, and civil society) when implementing landscape interventions allied to its optimization and awareness of the landscape resources in a broad sense, such as economical, urban, biophysical, visual or socio-cultural. The program is directed to self-employed professionals, private professionals, state organs and NGOs, with an undergraduation level (college or university), from Brazil or another country, with great potential to academic studies and with professional experience concerning landscape project. Coordination Cristóvão Fernandes Duarte (coordinator) Lucia Maria Sá Antunes Costa (vice-coordinator) Subject Area The Professional Master in Landscape Architecture elects as its research subject the landscape (in urban and territorial scales), with emphasis on the processes of forming and transforming its open spaces. It highlights the analysis and methodology of intervention project in the landscape from an interdisciplinary perspective, starting at the dynamic interaction among people, places and nature. Focus, research theme and research projects The Professional Master in Landscape Architecture is organized from the focus on Landscape Project and Sustainability, and two research themes: Cultural and Environmental Sustainability of Landscape as well as Morphology, Structures and Landscape Planning and Management. The focus (Landscape Project and Sustainability) brings the identity of the course towards the field of Landscape: the emphasis on the possibilities of the landscape project as one of the tools of creation of a landscape is able to contribute to the sustainability in the human environment. The research theme Cultural and Environmental Sustainability of the Landscape investigates subjects related to the sustainability mainly through the interrelationships between cultural and environmental processes and their repercussions to landscape. The research theme Morphology and Landscape Planning and Management adresses issues related to morphology and landscape structure, especially issues related to planning and management. Graduation Work According to the particularity of stritu-sensu graduation at Professional Master level, the graduation work will be the development of a master thesis-project, which theme should be related to issues subjected to the organization which the Master serves, or it will be representative of the work developed after the end of the Professional Master. The work is individual (personal) and it allows to deepen an important topic in the field of Landscape. The master thesis-project must present the building of a problem project concerning Landscape, the discussion of a theorical and methodological structure able to face the proposed problem, and the project solutions proposed. Title granted by the course The Professional Master in Landscape Architecture grants the title of Master in Landscape Architecture, which acquisition is subjected to the compliance of 24 credits (from the university) and to the development and defense of dissertation (thesis)-project.
